Registration as an unemployed jobseeker interrupted starting from December 30.12.2024

Starting in 2025, responsibility for employment services will transfer from the state to municipalities as TE Offices are phased out and their duties are transferred to new employment regions. Finland will have 45 employment regions responsible for public employment services. The reform will bring services closer to customers.

Service interruption at year-end

The E-services at Job Market Finland (“Työmarkkinatori”)(you move to another service) will be unavailable at year-end due to system updates related to the transition. The interruption begins on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. and ends on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. If registering as a jobseeker is delayed due to the interruption, it is possible to receive a retroactive statement ensuring the continuity of your job search. However, we recommend registering as an unemployed jobseeker in advance. You can submit the first application after 2 weeks of unemployment.

Registering via Job Market Finland

E-services at Job Market Finland remains the primary source of information and service channel for customers. Registration as an unemployed jobseeker will also continue to be done via the service. It is advisable to register immediately when unemployment or layoff begins, but you can also register in advance. Note that unemployment benefits can only be paid for the period when your job search is valid.

Services continue without interruption

Although responsibilities will shift to municipalities, customer services will continue without interruptions. If you are already a TE Office customer, you do not need to take any action, as your customer relationship will automatically transfer to your municipality’s employment authority.

Impact on Unemployment Benefits

The reform does not affect the amount or timing of unemployment benefits. Members of the Unemployment Fund for Education and Science can continue to apply for earnings-related daily allowances in the same way as before. Employment authorities will still provide statements to unemployment funds, which form the basis for decisions on benefit payments.

Employment authority

A municipal or joint municipal authority responsible for organizing public employment services and certain unemployment benefit-related tasks.

More information about the reform and the transition can be found in announcements on the Employment Market Portal and on the website of your municipality’s employment region.
