As of 1 January 2019, studies may count towards activity as required by the active model. For more information, you can read this article in the Articles section.
On 1 April 2019, more service providers will be added to the group that provides employment-supporting activities, participation in which may count towards the activity of a beneficiary of unemployment allowance. At the moment, only services organised or purchased by the TE Office count towards activity. In future, participation in, for instance, employment-supporting activities organised by trade unions, organisations and certain other organisations or municipalities will count towards activity. From the beginning of April, participation in change security training organised by employers for their laid-off employees will also count towards activity.
The organising party should always provide the participant with a certificate. With this certificate, the unemployment allowance applicant shows the payer of the allowance, i.e. the unemployment fund or Kela, that they have participated in employment-supporting activity accepted by the active model.
You can read more about these changes on the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health’s website (in Finnish).
