Check your tax card – your annual limit may be exceeded towards the end of the year
Towards the end of the year, some of our members may exceed the annual limit stated on their tax card. The Fund will send a letter if it seems necessary to review your tax rate.
For some of our members, the annual limit on the tax card may be exceeded at the end of the year. In such cases, the additional tax rate stated on the tax card will be applied to the payment of earnings-related daily allowance or mobility allowance.
At the Unemployment Fund for Education and Science, we use a system feature that allows our automated process to estimate each member’s average earnings-related daily allowance for the rest of the year. If, based on this estimate, it appears that the annual limit on the tax card may be exceeded, the member will automatically receive a letter from the Fund. The letter will advise the member to check their tax rate for the rest of the year and, if desired, submit a new revised tax card for the benefit.
Even though the system automatically checks tax details, please remember to monitor the accumulation of your income limit yourself as well. You can easily check the tax card and income details held by the Fund in Openetti under Income and tax details → Tax details.
How to order a revised tax card for benefits?
You can get a new tax card most quickly through the Finnish Tax Administration’s e-service MyTax at www.vero.fi(you move to another service). When ordering, select “Opetus ja tiede Tk” (Unemployment Fund for Education and Science) as the payer of the benefit. In this case, the tax card information will be sent automatically to the Fund, and you do not need to provide a physical tax card. If you order a revised tax card for the benefit in another way, please send it to us yourself via Openetti or by post.
