Tax card effective earlier in 2025
Starting in 2025, the tax card will come into effect on January 1, instead of February as previously.
The Finnish Tax Administration is updating its tax card practices starting from the beginning of 2025. From now on, the tax card will be effective from the start of the year, with the income limit calculated for a 12-month period.
The tax card for 2025 will be available to everyone in MyTax by December 13, 2024, and these will be updated in our system during the end of 2024. Once your 2025 tax card is visible in MyTax, you can make changes by ordering a new tax card or an amended tax card.
Revised tax card for benefits
Based on an income tax card, the minimum withholding on a benefit is 25%, even if the withholding percentage on the tax card is lower. If you want the withholding to be below 25%, you can submit a revised tax card for benefits, and the tax will then be withheld according to the withholding percentage on the revised tax card.
According to the Tax Administration’s guidelines, you can order a revised tax card once your 2025 tax card is visible in MyTax.
From 13.12.2024, everyone can make changes or order a new tax card for 2025.
How do I order a revised tax card for benefit??
The fastest way to get a new tax card is to order one on the electronic service of the Tax Administration, MyTax, at www.vero.fi. When you order a tax card, please select “Opetus ja tiede Tk” as the payer of the benefit. If you do so, the information will be submitted to the Unemployment Fund for Education and Science automatically, and you will not need to submit your tax card separately. If you order a revised tax card for a social benefit in another manner, please send it to us on Openetti or by mail.
More information on the taxation of benefits paid by us is available on the website of the Tax Administration at www.vero.fi.
